The museum is housed in the Chapter House of the convent of Santa Maria Maddalena de’ Pazzi, which originally belonged to the “converts or penitents” of the Benedictine order (1257-1442), later to the Cistercians of Badia a Settimo (1442-1628), and finally to the Carmelites of Santa Maria Maddalena de’ Pazzi, who lived in the convent up to the time of the post-unification suppressions (1866). It houses the fresco showing the Crucifixion, Our Lady, St. John, Mary Magdalene, Saint Bernard and Saint Benedict, executed by Perugino between 1493 and 1496 on commission from Dionigi and Giovanna Pucci. Also conserved in this room are the detached fresco and the sinopia with Saint Bernard receiving the Body of Christ, probably executed in 1506 by a pupil of Perugino, Sperandio di Giovanni.
