The mission of the Education Department, founded in 1970, is to promote knowledge of the Florentine state-run museums. As an office of the Polo Museale of Florence, we offer material, guided visits and workshops in Italian tailored to teachers and students at all school levels, as well as to families with children and groups of adults in education programs.

All activities follow the guidelines set by a series of legislations, the most important being the 1998-agreement between the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and the Ministry of Public Education regarding Italy's Educational Program for Cultural Heritage. Activities for non-Italian schools or persons are therefore not provided. Educational museum visits for school groups from European Union countries can nevertheless be requested by contacting OPERA – Firenze Musei and indicating the language required: + 39 055-294883 / 290112 fax: +39 055-264406.

However, our department has published material for English-speaking visitors who wish to use our method of approach. Here below is the list of publications on sale at most museum bookshops, along with samples of free handouts for visitors to the Museum of Andrea del Sarto's Last Supper at San Salvi and those at the museums of the Cenacoli and the Chiostro dello Scalzo (the latter are products of sustained partnerships with public schools):
