Helene Brandt    Donatella Mei

Sculptures – Paintings – Installations
For Isabella

The new Yorker Helene Brandt and the Florentine Donatella Mei; two artists of different origins and training addressing the experience and history preserved in the Villa of Cerreto Guidi and the surrounding landscape. In the past these sites were considerably less attractive, albeit inhabited and full of life, witnesses to the coexistence of different people whose fates became entwined.
Using different materials and formal solutions, the two artists recount profound emotions, evoking sentiments and conflicts.

Brandt’s fluid metallic structures dialogue with the exterior, tying up with the landscape that extends in all its beauty around that favoured vantage-point over the territory represented by the villa.
Mei’s transparencies seek and find their place, with discretion and lightness, in the interiors laden with objects that ancient and recent histories have crammed into the rooms.

The exhibition represents a peaceable invasion of the Medici Villa in the name of Isabella Medici Orsini, the favourite daughter of the Grand Duke Cosimo I.
