The retrospective for Ugo Nespolo (the first held in Florence) responds to the need to enhance the promotion of contemporary art too, particularly within the museums that feature in their collections works susceptible to direct comparisons between tradition and modernity, especially in relation to different artistic techniques. In this way, the Bargello intends to valorise its extraordinary heritage of so-called “minor” or applied arts, presenting a review of works of the most disparate techniques and functions (majolica, glass, mosaic, sculpture, painting, graphics, scenic design and artistic publishing), produced by one of the most famous contemporary Italian artists, some of them dedicated specifically to the Bargello museum. The objective set is that of also engaging the public most sensitive to contemporary culture, so that it can reconsider the role of the historic-artistic heritage as a source of inspiration and an expression of continuity with the present.
