Ufficio città di Firenze

Information

The City of Florence Office is in charge of the protection, conservation and enhancement of the artistic and historic heritage (that is the moveable assets, wall paintings and decorative apparatus) and the ethno-anthropological heritage existing within the city and belonging to both national and local public bodies, civilly recognised ecclesiastical bodies and any other public body or institution and to any non-profit private legal entities, pursuant to article 10, subsection 1 of the Cultural Heritage and Landscape Code. This responsibility also extends to moveable assets, wall paintings and decorative apparatus over 50 years old belonging to private individuals, where such are declared as being of particular historic or artistic interest, and for which the related notification has been made to the owners.

The sphere of action of the Office is therefore broad and varied and involves close liaison with all the other sectors of the Superintendency, and more specifically the Catalogue Office, the Notifications Office, the Restoration Office and the Exhibitions Office.

The City of Florence Office was set up in 2008 implementing the Decree of the President of the Republic no. 233 of 26 November 2007 (Regulation for the reorganisation of the Ministry of Culture, MIBAC), enacting the transfer of responsibilities for the historic, artistic and ethno-anthropological heritage of the city of Florence to the already established Soprintendenza Speciale per il Polo Museale Fiorentino , which was consequently named Soprintendenza Speciale per il Patrimonio Storico Artistico ed Etnoantropologico e per il Polo Museale della Città di Firenze.
